The third day of IIHS was tight on schedule. Players had one on-ice practice, one off-ice practice, and virtual reality testing in the morning. Czech TV came to do a report about the virtual reality, so the stadium was a busy place in the morning. Finnish parents were officially welcomed in Jihlava by Vysocina’s regional office. They tasted some of the Vysocina’s regional products. In the afternoon, players and staff members took an official IIHS photo before the second game of IIHS. The white team was more successful again and won 7:3. After the game, every player took a penalty shot at an NHL goalie David Rittich. He says with a smile: “It was something new for me as well. I have never been against 40 players in a row.” David is a former Dukla Jihlava and a current Calgary Flames goalie.

While the kids were practicing in the morning, a group of Finnish parents was formally welcomed in the residency of Vysocina region. They were welcomed by a governor Jiri Behounek and Zdenek Kadlec who is a director of Vysocina’s regional office. The governor presented a short film about the first seven years of IIHS, information about Vysocina region, and then Finnish parents tasted some of Vysocina’s regional specialties. After tasting, the group photo was taken.

The second game of IIHS 2018

The second game of International Ice Hockey School won the white team. In the first period, the blue team was ahead by two goals twice (2:0, 3:1), but the white team scored a goal at the end of the first period, and then they scored two goals in between 45 seconds to turn the game around. After that, the white team scored three more goals to finish the game 7:3.

When the game was finished, David Rittich came on the ice. It was a big surprise for players. David dressed fully up and took his Calgary Flames practice jersey, so every player could take a penalty shot at him. The young players were so excited and motivated to score against an NHL goalie. The score of penalty shootout ended as a tie 6:6.

More than 40 penalty shots, during a short period of time, challenged David Rittich in the net. Former Dukla Jihlava player awarded the best players of the game for the second time in two years. However, this time he dressed up and challenged the young players. He says: “I think that any professional goalie has never been against 40 penalty shots in this short amount of time. I wanted to end the shootout as a tie. After all, if I tried on 100%, the kids wouldn’t have that much fun from that. I am glad that some of the guys scored, so they could be so happy and celebrate a goal.”

David also shares his opinion about International Ice Hockey School: “I think it is a great project. The young guys find out how hockey works in another country, and they must communicate in a different language. I am happy that I have been invited for the second time, and that the school is happening every year since 2011.”
