Day 4 and day 5 of IIHS were different than others. Players went through practices, regeneration at aquapark, testing, and a game

Fourth and fifth day of IIHS were special again. Tuesday morning was as usual. Players had one on-ice and one off-ice practice. However, something different than a game waited for players in the afternoon. In the middle of the school, it is always time for a regeneration. All players and staff members spent the afternoon in the aquapark. On Wednesday, players went through a traditional testing both on-ice and off-ice. In the afternoon, the white team won again to make it three wins out of three games. Petr Jaros awarded the best players of the game where the white team destroyed the blue team 11:3.

Tuesday morning was not only about practices but about the medic as well. Metodej Renza, the IIHS medic, together with Karel Nekvasil and Viktor Ujcik, who are juniors team coaches, saved a life. A young member of junior’s team suffered from a cardiac arrest. Metodej Renza resuscitated him and saved his life.

After this horrible accident, players and staff members went to the aquapark where they spent a nice afternoon. They tried not only the pools and slides but also a beach volleyball.

Players went back to hard work on Wednesday. However, practices were in a different mode. Players were tested the same way as players of the first seven years of IIHS. They had to complete four exercises on-ice and off-ice. The best players in this testing will be awarded at the end of IIHS.

The third game

As well as the second game, the third game was close only in the first period which the white team won 4:3. In the second period, the white team scored another three goals to make the game 7:3. The white team comfortably scored 4 goals in the third period, so they won the game 11:3. We expect trades in between teams tomorrow.

Jan Dvořák: I have never experienced three nationalities on the ice at the same time, but we are ready to go all the time.

Jan Dvorak is attending IIHS for the first time as well as Vojta Sir. He is normally a coach at Ledni Medvedi Pelhrimov. He admitted that he did not know what to expect from the school. He says: “I knew that the school has some history and tradition. I like how everything works, for example, players have a great attitude to get better. Everything is superb.” Jan Dvorak also shares his opinion about three nationalities on the ice: “I have never experienced three nationalities on the ice at the same. We can prepare practices somehow because the communication is in the English language. If we don’t understand our oral communication, we can just draw stuff on the board. That is the same in every language, but I have not learned any Finnish words yet.”

He also talks about the differences between Czech and Finnish players: “Czech players are passing rather than shooting. On the other side, Finnish players are shooting more. I see that coaches in Finland are looking into agility skill very often because Finnish players have better movement coordination. When the Finnish coach led the off-ice warm-up, he applied some of the agility exercises, and the Czech players were just looking not knowing what to do.”
